View Article  Cover your true world with beautiful cloth

Many women in Africa do not have a voice to express their anquish, but a young Nigerian photographer, Lucy Azubuike, captures their unspoken plight in the allegorical photos she takes of trees. Her photo, Amado Uwa Gioge (cover your true world with beautiful cloth) speaks to the pretence that is many women's experience. "Trees," Lucy said, "do not pretend and they are daring to show their emotions - unlike humans." Her work shows the real bleeding inside of a woman who sufferes and dies in silence just to please the society in which she finds herself.

Lucy Azubuike is a young Nigerian artist who graduated from the University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1999 and who stayed at High View Gardens while putting together a portfolio that will be part of a future exhibition in South Africa.
